Export documentation checklist for Pakistani manufacturers

Most L/C discrepancies come from four fields. Get Form-E, the invoice, the B/L and the origin certificate to agree and payment stops being a fight.

The core document set

Every export from Pakistan needs the same foundation, whether it moves by air from Sialkot or by sea from Karachi.

  • Form-E, filed electronically through your bank before shipment
  • Commercial invoice and detailed packing list
  • Bill of lading or air waybill
  • Certificate of origin — chamber-issued, or preferential where an FTA applies
  • Export Goods Declaration filed in WeBOC

Form-E is the one that stops shipments

Form-E ties your export to a bank and to the State Bank's foreign exchange realisation framework. It must be issued before shipment, and the value, quantity, HS code and buyer details on it must match the GD and the invoice exactly. Amending it after the vessel sails is slow and sometimes impossible.

Letters of credit: the four fields that cause discrepancies

Banks reject documents on literal mismatches, not on intent. Before you present, check the goods description word-for-word against the L/C, confirm the shipment and presentation dates are inside their windows, verify the consignee and notify party, and confirm partial shipment and transhipment terms match what actually happened.

Read the L/C on the day you receive it, not on the day you ship. Amendments are cheap early and expensive late.

Incoterms decide who carries the risk

FOB Karachi is the default for many Pakistani exporters, but CIF and CFR let you control the freight leg and often improve margin on repeat lanes. Whatever you choose, state the Incoterm with a named place and the 2020 revision on every quotation and invoice.

Key takeaways

  • Form-E must precede shipment and match the GD and invoice exactly
  • Review the L/C the day it arrives and amend early
  • Always write Incoterms with a named place and the rules revision
